When I was growing up my mother taught at a small college and my father was an engineer. Ours was an extended family with my grandparents playing a very important part of my life. My father’s work required him to travel. When my mother was not home, I always had my grandfather to turn to. I was extremely fortunate to have spent many years with my grandfather. My grandfather had an 8th grade education. When he was a boy an 8th grade education was considered more than enough and besides, he was needed at the farm in the field to work. My grandfather had a great and profound influence on my life. It was not his education, or lack of education, that made him great. It was his love of family and the fact that he applied life’s hard lessons and common sense to every problem he faced. He worked for everything he owned and he took nothing for granted. I believe everyone can benefit from that lesson.
I believe one’s life experiences shape
and form the character of a person.
As my grandfather proved to me life’s
experiences are only useful if properly
utilized. You must learn from and apply the lessons life gives you, if they are to have any meaningful impact toward your
character
